Intersecting Curves (video)

Intersecting Curves from Peter Henderson - Systems Art on Vimeo.

The systematic elements of this production are as follows.

The video is a 50 second image sequence recorded at 30fps, each frame being derived from its neighbour by squeezing it top to bottom and left to right, progressively tightening and relaxing the squeeze. The sequence repeats after 10 seconds, repeating 5 time in all.

The soundtrack is also a repeating sequence based on ideas learned from Reich and Glass. A sequence of five tones is offered by the clarinet and the cello, played in sequence but with each omitting some elements in each measure. With this pattern the music cycles after 5 measures, or 10 secs. So again 5 copies of the cycle are required to accompany the images and synchronise with the video.
